Dear all,

Good morning!

This week, we have witnessed two stunning news.

On Monday, Eliot Spitzer, who was able to rise to New York Governor from State Attorney General with a moniker of Mr. Clean by successfully pursuing cases against companies involved in computer chip price fixing, investment bank stock price inflation, and other financial industry crimes, acknowledged his involvement in a high-priced prostitution ring and finally announced his resignation on Wednesday.

If a company was not involved in one of his cases, people said, it certainly was not a notable global company. We could see such names as Samsung, Hynix, Infenion, Micron, Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan Chase, Merrill Lynch, UBS, AIG and you name it.

Everybody on Wall Street was elatedly talking about him after hearing the news. He was the most dreadful person in their eyes. Further, many believed it was a matter of when, not if, that he will become president since he created a buzz wherever he went. He was elected chairman of Princeton student government, achieved a perfect score on the LSAT, and went on to Harvard Law School to be an editor of the Harvard Law Review.

The other stunning news was on Tuesday, the Fed took an unprecedented measure to inject liquidity directly to the financial markets to return credit markets back to normal. Due to the demonstration of its willingness to use every weapon in its arsenal on top of employing rate cuts, which come at an increasingly inflationary price, the Dow immediately gained the biggest one-day point since 2002.

This surprising and creative measure successfully disclosed the Fed¡¯s determination to fix Wall Street¡¯s credit crisis, although it wouldn¡¯t help lead the U.S. economy out of recession tunnel.

Believe it or not, several Vermont towns approved a measure that would instruct police to arrest incumbent President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney for ¡°crimes against U.S. Constitution¡± to end the war in Iraq and impeach Bush and Cheney. The measure is non-binding but symbolic. Still, it shows how liberal Vermont is.

For your knowledge, President Bush has never visited the state as president, although he has spent summer vacations at his family compound in nearby Maine.

These episodes remind us of the truth: Nothing is impossible or Impossible is nothing like the ads of Adidas.

Human nature prefers the comfort that comes with pursuing a time-honored strategy. Surely, sharing a common outcome with large numbers of fellow citizens creates a mutually reinforcing social bond. Unfortunately, the comfortable or conventional wisdom rarely produces success.

Rather, to achieve goals a determination with a clear view is required. Also, an unconventional approach is highly recommended for successful asset management by David Swensen, the famous Yale Investment Office CIO.

We may, therefore, never be afraid to be different. The world has been bettered by pioneering individuals who weren¡¯t afraid to do weird things or to be different from others.

Have a terrific weekend!

Hank

[The Army Son]

The Creightons were very proud of their son, Frank. When he went to college, naturally they missed him; but he wrote and they looked forward to his letters and saw him on weekends. Then Frank was drafted into the army.

After he had been in the army about five months, he received his call to go to Vietnam. Of course, the parents¡¯ anxiety for his first letter was greater than ever before. And every week they heard from him and were thankful for his well-being. Then one week went by without a letter, two weeks, and finally three. At the end of the third week a telegram came, saying, ¡°We regret to inform you that your son has been missing for three weeks and is presumed to have been killed in action while fighting for his country.¡±

The parents were shocked and grieved. They tried to accept the situation and go on living, but it was tragically lonesome without Frank.

About three weeks later, however, the phone rang. When Mrs. Creighton answered it, a voice on the other end said, ¡°Mother, it¡¯s me, Frank. They found me, and I¡¯m going to be all right. I¡¯m in the United States and I¡¯m coming home soon.¡±

Mrs. Creighton was overjoyed, with tears running down her cheeks she sobbed, ¡°Oh, that¡¯s wonderful! That¡¯s just wonderful, Frank.¡±

There was silence for a moment, and then Frank said, ¡°Mother I want to ask you something that is important to me. While I¡¯ve been here, I¡¯ve met a lot of wonderful people and I¡¯ve really become close friends with some. There is one fellow I would like to bring home with me to meet you and Dad. And I would like to know if it would be all right if he could stay and live with us, because he has no place to go.¡±

His mother assured him it would be all right.

Then Frank said, ¡°You see, he wasn¡¯t as lucky as some; he was injured in battle. He was hit by a blast and his face is all disfigured. He lost his leg, and his right hand is missing. So, you see, he feels uneasy about how others will accept him.¡±

Frank¡¯s mother stopped to think a minute. She began to wonder how things would work out, and what people in town would think of someone like that. She said, ¡°Sure Frank, you bring him home for a visit, that is. We would love to meet him and have him stay for a while; but about him staying with us permanently, well, we¡¯ll have to think about that.¡± There was silence for a minute, and then Frank said, ¡°Okay, Mother,¡± and hung up.

A week went by without any word from Frank, and then a telegram arrived, ¡°We regret to inform you that your son has taken his life. We would like you to come and identify the body.¡± Their wonderful son was gone. The horror-stricken parents could only ask themselves, ¡°Why had he done this?¡±

When they walked into the room to identify the body of their son, they found a young man with a disfigured face, one leg missing, and his right hand gone.

[Reincarnation]

Jason came home from the pub late one Friday evening stinking drunk (as he often did) and crept into bed beside his wife who was already asleep. He gave his wife a peck on the cheek and fell asleep.

When he awoke he found a strange man standing at the end of his bed wearing a long flowing white robe. ¡°Who the hell are you?¡± Demanded Jason, ¡°and what are you doing in my bedroom?¡±

The mysterious Man answered ¡°This isn¡¯t your bedroom and I¡¯m St. Peter.¡±

Jason was stunned ¡°You mean I¡¯m dead!!! That can¡¯t be. I have so much to live for. I haven¡¯t said goodbye to my family.... You¡¯ve got to send me back straight away.¡±

St Peter replied ¡°Yes, you can be reincarnated but there is a catch. We can only send you back as a dog or a hen.¡± Jason was devastated, but knowing there was a farm not far from his house, he asked to be sent back as a hen. A flash of light later he was covered in feathers and clucking around pecking the ground.

¡°This ain¡¯t so bad¡± he thought until he felt this strange feeling welling up inside him.

The farmyard rooster strolled over and said ¡°So you¡¯re the new hen, how are you enjoying your first day here?¡±

¡°It¡¯s not so bad¡± replies Jason, ¡°but I have this strange feeling inside like I¡¯m about to explode.¡±

¡°You¡¯re ovulating.¡± explained the rooster, ¡°Don¡¯t tell me you¡¯ve never laid an egg before.¡±

¡°Never¡± replies Jason.

¡°Well, just relax and let it happen.¡±

And so he did and after a few uncomfortable seconds later, an egg pops out from under his tail. An immense feeling of relief swept over him and his emotions got the better of him as he experienced motherhood for the first time. When he laid his second egg, the feeling of happiness was overwhelming and he knew that being reincarnated as a hen was the best thing that had ever happened to him... ever!!!

The joy kept coming and as he was just about to lay his third egg he felt an enormous SMACK on the back of his head and heard his wife shouting ¡°Jason, wake up you drunken bastard, you¡¯re shitting the bed!¡±
