Dear all,

Good Friday morning!

It¡¯s a no-brainer that the bull market bade good-bye after Dow Jones hit new highs in the middle of the sub-prime mortgage crisis as if the problem was quickly contained. Meanwhile, the bear market pokes its head out of disappointing signs of the U.S. slowdown such as slowed corporate profit growth, unstoppable housing market fall, the continued credit crunch that may deflate business investments, slow consumption due to all-time high consumer debt, and slow manufacturing in U.S.

Under these volatile circumstances, we could use some psychological relief by visiting fortune-tellers, including palm-readers or tarot-readers or four-pillar interpreters as a pastime.

Therefore, here I am attaching the list of possible improbables prepared by Doug Kass, CEO of Seabreeze Partners Management, for 2008.

1. The 2007 housing depression morphs into the retail spending depression.

2. The S&P 500 Index falls by 5%-10%.

3. The Federal Reserve eases monetary policy with nearly every meeting accompanied by a 25bp cut.

4. Growth in the Western European economies deteriorates.

5. The housing bust accelerates. High profile bankruptcies include Countrywide Financial, Beazer Homes, Hovnanian, Standard Pacific, WCI Communities and Radian Group.

6. Financial stocks fail to recover.

7. Apple Computer, Google and Research in Motion move into bubble status and their shares double.

8. Yahoo and eBay merge. So do Amazon and Overstock.com.

9. GE will sell NBC Universal to Time Warner, which will not sell or spin off AOL.

10. The U.S. dollar value falls by over 10%; Gold rises to over $1,000/oz.

11. The price of crude oil eclipses $135/barrel.

12. The hedge fund community is disintermediated. Outflows accelerate.

13. Sovereign wealth funds become targets of American politicians.

14. Democrats Clinton/Kerry and Republican McCain/Crist represent their parties in the Presidential/Vice Presidential contest in November. Democrats garb the White House.

Please, take the list just for fun. I¡¯d like to note that just half of Kass¡¯ last year¡¯s improbable surprises came to pass, not all.

Have a wonderful weekend, you all!

Hank

[Kindness]

One day, a poor boy who was selling goods from door to door to pay his way through school, found he had only one thin dime left, and he was hungry. He decided he would ask for a meal at the next house. However, he lost his nerve when a lovely young woman opened the door.

Instead of a meal, he asked for a drink of water. She thought he looked hungry and so she brought him a large glass of milk. He drank it slowly, and then asked, ¡°How much do I owe you?¡±

"You don't owe me anything," she replied. ¡°Mother has taught us never to accept pay for a kindness.¡± He said, ¡°Then I thank you from my heart.¡± As Howard Kelly left that house, he not only felt stronger physically, but his faith in God and man was strengthened also. He had been ready to give up and quit.

Years later, that young woman became critically ill. The local doctors were baffled. They finally sent her to the big city, where they called in specialists to study her rare disease.

Dr. Howard Kelly was called in for the consultation. When he heard the name of the town she came from, he went down the hall of the hospital to her room. Dressed in his doctor¡¯s gown, he went in to see her. He recognized her at once. He went back to the consultation room determined to do his best to save her life. From that day, he gave special attention to the case.

After a long struggle, the battle was won. Dr. Kelly requested from the business office to pass the final billing to him for approval. He looked at it, then, wrote something on the edge, and the bill was sent to her room. She feared to open it, for she was sure it would take the rest of her life to pay for it all. Finally she looked, and something caught her attention on the side of the bill. She read these words:

¡°PAID IN FULL WITH ONE GLASS OF MILK¡¦.

(Signed)

Dr. Howard Kelly.¡±

Tears of joy flooded her eyes as her happy heart prayed: ¡°Thank You, God, that Your love is shed abroad through human hearts and hands.¡±

[Emergency Landing]

An Australian airliner recently encountered severe vibration in flight.

The captain decided to make an emergency landing, and switched on the seat belt sign.

The vibration stopped immediately.

A passenger emerged from a lavatory and explained that he had been jogging in place inside. (A true story)
